REINHOLD LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
A PROGRAM OF THE PAUL E. AND KLARE N. REINHOLD FOUNDATION, INC.

As part of its grant making program, The Paul E. and Klare N. Reinhold Foundation, Inc. works to support nonprofit organizations that serve Clay County, Florida – the community that provided such a fulfilling life for founders Paul and Klare Reinhold.

Through its Nonprofit Development Initiative Program, the Foundation focuses on strengthening the nonprofit sector by strengthening the leadership of nonprofit organizations that serve Clay County. Participation in this Program is restricted to not-for-profit organizations that provide services located in Clay County.

The objective of the Nonprofit Development Initiative Program is to offer training opportunities for professional staff members and volunteer leaders through the following two educational tracks:

Organizations may apply for either or both of the above educational programs offered.

Individual Leadership Development Program

The Individual Leadership Development Program is designed to enhance the leadership skills of key individuals – paid staff members or volunteer leaders – within the organization.

Grants of up to $10,000 each are awarded to the organization to underwrite the cost of leadership training for the executive director or other key individuals.

Examples of suitable educational opportunities include, but are not limited to the following listed programs:

CENTER FOR CREATIVE LEADERSHIP, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM – A five-day residential program held at various locations and various times throughout the year. Tuition: $6,800 per person. See www.ccl.org.

ECKERD COLLEGE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE – A five-day program held at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida, at multiple dates throughout the year. Tuition: $6,800 per person. See www.eckerd.edu/ldi/index.php.

STANFORD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS EXECUTIVE PROGRAM FOR NONPROFIT LEADERS – A two-week program sponsored by the Center for Social Innovation at Stanford. Tuition: $3,900 - $7,900 sliding scale. See www.gsb.stanford.edu/exed/epnl/index.html

In addition, applicants are encouraged to consider other leadership programs and opportunities, such as engaging an appropriate consultant to provide targeted leadership training; or participating in training opportunities offered by trade associations or other organizations with which they are affiliated.

During 2006 – 2007, grant recipients and their chosen programs included:

  • Clay County Habitat for Humanity – Executive director attended Habitat’s New Executive Director Leadership and Orientation program.
  • Episcopal Children’s Services – Engaged Montgomery Copley Associates to provide Leadership Effectiveness and Development Program for management staff.
  • Lutheran Social Services – One staff member participated in a Johns & Associates Leadership Development Program.
  • Quigley House – One staff member participated in the Leadership Development Program offered by Eckerd College.

Nonprofit Management Team Development Program

The Nonprofit Management Team Development Program is designed to provide training to organizational teams, rather than individuals.

When several people from the same organization share a common learning experience, the impact on the organization is typically much greater. It is often difficult, however, for organizations to manage the costs or logistical challenges of providing team training. The Reinhold Nonprofit Management Team Development Program makes team training manageable by:

  • Underwriting all of the costs of the training;
  • Limiting training sessions to a manageable amount of time;
  • Holding training sessions in Clay County.

In addition, The Paul E. and Klare N. Reinhold Foundation, Inc. offers a special incentive to organizations that participate in this program: those teams that successfully complete the training will earn a "Graduation Grant" of up to $2,000 for their organization.

The Reinhold Nonprofit Management Team Development Program is taught by faculty from the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center, who developed the curriculum specifically to meet the needs of Clay County’s not-for-profit organizations.

The program is designed for at least two and not more than four members of an organization’s leadership team. Teams may include paid staff, volunteers and board members. Organizations are strongly encouraged to include a board officer on the team.

The curriculum includes the following courses:

  • Organizational Readiness to Fundraise – a two-day course that helps organizations review fundamentals in preparation for fundraising.
    Dates – January 15-16, 2008 OR January 30-31, 2008
  • Volunteer Management Academy – a one-day session that helps organizations develop more effective strategies for working with volunteer staff.
    Dates – February 13, 2008 OR February 14, 2008
  • Board Governance for Effective Leadership – a powerful program taught by Chuck Loring, a senior consultant for BoardSource and nationally recognized expert in board development.
    Dates – February 26, 2008 – ONE DAY ONLY.
  • Finding Funding & Creating a Diversified Fundraising Plan – a practical strategy session to help organizations map out their fundraising future.
    Dates – March 25, 2008 OR March 26, 2008

Courses will be held at the Orange Park campus of St. Johns River Community College, in the Thrasher-Horne Center.

Participating organizations will receive a “Graduation Grant” of $500 per participant (up to a maximum of $2,000). Participants must successfully complete the entire training program to be eligible for the Graduation Grant.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING…

“The information obtained is invaluable to me and to our organization. Those of us who attended have gotten together several times since, to share the information and review it again. Thank you!”

“Our Advancement Committee focus is changing from a ‘smile & clap’ group reviewing the staff progress, to planning and directing the board's fund raising efforts.”

“I did not realize how relevant these courses would be.”

“Training the staff leadership team has prompted discussions at the senior staff meetings and at committee meetings that will generate change/growth for the agency. The workshops provided the tools to affect the changes desired.”
